Legislation passed by the House of Representatives would cut funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by $290 billion, the largest single reduction of domestic food assistance ever enacted. It now heads to the Senate, which will be drafting its own bill.

SNAP is the United States’ most important anti-hunger program. Each month, 42 million Americans depend on SNAP to help afford groceries – of which 40 percent are children.
